The Presidential Palace has much historic significance, the War Museum reminds us of the horrors of war and our involvement in it and the Cu Chi Tunnels give us an insight into how the Vietnamese survived the war years.  The city also has some interesting historic buildings from the French colonial period such as the town hall and the post office.  It is well worth spending at least 2 nights in Saigon before or after your cruise.
